Zoox's Simulation team needs to create high fidelity synthetic data for training and testing Autonomous Vehicle (AV) AI, as well as real-time sensor data for hardware-in-the-loop simulation to ensure the safety and performance of their autonomous driving technology in various cities.

Requirements

  • Fluency in C++ and/or Python, as well as a strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Strong skills in mathematics, particularly linear algebra
  • Experience with large-scale code projects
  • Broad knowledge of Gaussian Splatting or Neural Radiance Fields
  • Strong understanding of generative AI techniques including diffusion, GAN, and transformers
  • Experience with game development or simulation frameworks used in robotics
  • Experience with 3D game logic

Responsibilities

  • extend our simulation pipeline to reproduce dynamic actors accurately in simulation
  • research and evaluate various reconstruction algorithms and integrate the most promising of them into our simulation framework
  • develop and improve models that realistically simulate the behavior of other road agents like pedestrians and vehicles
  • leverage software engineering and machine learning skills to ensure these simulated agents exhibit a wide range of plausible and representative human behaviors
  • help create high fidelity synthetic data for training and testing AV AI, as well as real time sensor data for hardware-in-the-loop simulation
  • develop 3D ML models and training datasets for 3D sensor simulation using modern machine learning architectures
  • help create agentic AI systems capable of generating novel scenarios for validating the safety and performance of Zoox's autonomous driving technology

Other

  • Currently working towards a B.S., M.S., Ph.D., or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program
  • Must be returning to school to continue your education upon completing this internship
  • Good academic standing
  • Able to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June of 2026.
  • At least one previous industry internship, co-op, or project completed in a relevant area
