Block's Cash App is looking to leverage AI and machine learning to anticipate trends, make smarter decisions, and deliver enhanced user experiences. The Applied Machine Learning team aims to build models that learn, reason, and act, pushing the boundaries of predictive intelligence and decision automation to support forecasting and business planning.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software or ML engineering, including 2+ years of technical leadership or people management experience.
- Experience delivering production-grade ML systems—preferably in forecasting, revenue, or growth modeling.
- Experience with end-to-end ML systems, from data pipelines and model training to deployment and monitoring.
- Experience building or integrating explainable AI tools (e.g., feature attribution, interpretability frameworks, visualization systems).
- Experience with agentic AI concepts and tools for workflow automation (e.g., MCP).
- Apply both classical ML techniques (e.g., XGBoost, linear models) and modern Gen-AI tools to build end-to-end ML solutions that power Block's decision making engine.
- [Bonus] Experience in forecasting, planning, or financial modeling within fintech, consumer, or marketplace domains.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of applied ML engineers and modelers focused on forecasting and GTM models.
- Build AI-driven tools and interfaces that make models explainable and accessible for decision makers in Finance, Marketing, and Product.
- Collaborate across Finance, Sales, Marketing, and other go-to-market teams to refine growth strategies and support critical investment decisions with data-driven insights.
- Establish strong engineering practices across model development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Apply both classical ML techniques (e.g., XGBoost, linear models) and modern Gen-AI tools to build end-to-end ML solutions that power Block's decision making engine.
- Foster a team culture grounded in curiosity and measurable impact.
- Own execution across the full ML lifecycle, foster collaboration with executive team members, and help define how Cash App applies AI to deliver trustworthy, explainable, and actionable insights.
