The Model Risk Management Group (MRMG) at American Express needs to ensure the independent risk management of all AXP models, Non-Model Tools (NMTs), and End-User Computing (EUC) tools, guaranteeing they are conceptually sound, well-controlled, and compliant with regulatory expectations.
Requirements
- Hands-on validation experience of Models, NMTs, or EUCs, with ability to differentiate between them and apply appropriate governance.
- Experience applying statistical, quantitative, and/or machine learning techniques to business problems.
- Strong business acumen, with the ability to evaluate the purpose, use case, and risk implications of Models, NMTs, and EUCs.
- Proficiency in data manipulation and statistical programming tools such as Python, PySpark, R, or SAS.
- Familiarity with development, implementation, and monitoring processes.
- Ability to design benchmark models or non-model solutions to test robustness and validity.
Responsibilities
- Perform independent validation and oversight of enterprise-wide Models, NMTs, and EUCs across diverse business lines and functions.
- Assess classification decisions to ensure tools are correctly designated as a Model, NMT, or EUC, with well-documented rationale.
- Conduct gap assessments and develop frameworks to strengthen risk controls, aligning with evolving regulatory standards.
- Design and execute robust validation tests to assess conceptual soundness, implementation accuracy, and performance monitoring.
- Conduct benchmark analysis and develop independent solutions to test robustness.
- Communicate validation results, insights, and recommendations effectively to business partners, senior leadership, and risk committees.
- Research emerging practices and innovations in modeling, validation, and governance to continuously elevate excellence and business impact.
