PayPal is looking for an Engineering Manager to help expand commerce at Venmo. The opportunity is clear: merchants want better ways to connect with our massive user base, and our users want to discover and support businesses they love. The goal is to make commerce more social and human.

Requirements

  • Strong technical background – you can review code, debug issues, and guide architectural decisions
  • Experience with distributed systems and full-stack development (mobile, web, backend)
  • Experience with payment systems or financial products
  • Track record of building products from concept to launch

Responsibilities

  • Directly manages software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors.
  • Implements processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within their group
  • Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact their domain and potentially one other
  • Demonstrates strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business or tends
  • Analyzes multiple sources of information and identifies & resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development.
  • Own technical strategy for your area – making architecture decisions that balance current needs with future growth
  • Maintain high engineering standards while moving fast – code reviews, testing strategies, and operational excellence

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Lead a team of 8-20 engineers building and scaling commerce features used by millions of people and businesses daily
  • Partner with product, design, and business teams to turn ideas into shipped features that solve real customer problems
  • Develop your engineers through regular one-on-ones, career planning, and creating opportunities for them to grow
  • Make informed trade-offs between competing priorities and communicate decisions clearly to stakeholders
  • Build team culture that encourages innovation, ownership, and learning from both successes and failures
  • 2+ years managing engineering teams, ideally in consumer products or fintech
