Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of innovative mechanical components and systems, with a focus on working in a regulated industry such as medical devices.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of mechanical design experience in R&D teams, ideally in the medical device or another regulated industry.
- Hands-on experience with materials selection, DFM/DFA principles, and manufacturing processes such as injection molding, CNC machining, soft goods, and sheet metal.
- Strong proficiency with 3D CAD modelling, specifically Solidworks.
- Proficiency in detailed drawing creation, tolerance analysis, and GD&T.
- Integration of PCBs, flex circuits, sensors, actuators, motors, cable harnesses, and/or embedded systems into compact, robust enclosures.
- Understanding of medical device industry and regulatory requirements for Class I and Class II medical devices.
- Experience with motion control, kinematics, mechatronics, FEA, and/or human factors is considered a plus.
Responsibilities
- Independently research, design, modify, and verify complex mechanical components, subassemblies, equipment, and systems.
- Conduct advanced prototyping and feasibility tests, analyze results, provide recommendations, and develop reports that translate into validated, innovative products.
- Analyze and resolve manufacturing issues and non-conformances for new and existing products.
- Interface with external vendors, contract manufacturers, consultants, and manufacturing technicians.
- Integration of PCBs, flex circuits, sensors, actuators, motors, cable harnesses, and/or embedded systems into compact, robust enclosures.
- Experience with motion control, kinematics, mechatronics, FEA, and/or human factors is considered a plus.
Other
- Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management teams.
- Travel to customer and supplier sites, both domestically and internationally.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in pre-clinical or human clinical settings is a bonus.
- The position involves working in a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams, where the ability to travel to various customer and supplier sites is required.
