Johnson Controls is seeking to design, develop, and test innovative electromechanical products, including valves, actuators, thermostats, and building automation components, and is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support these efforts.

Requirements

  • CAD experience with 3D modeling (Creo preferred)
  • Experience with 3D printing and prototyping
  • Familiarity with sensor integration, embedded control systems, or electromechanical design
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn advanced tools and methods
  • Ability to work with mechanical design and development of electromechanical products
  • Knowledge of FEA analysis and interpretation of results
  • Experience with laboratory testing and validation of components and assemblies

Responsibilities

  • Assist in mechanical design and development of electromechanical products such as actuators, valves, and gear-driven systems.
  • Support prototype builds using 3D printing and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Create and update 3D CAD models and drawings using Creo or similar tools.
  • Help perform basic FEA analysis and interpret results under supervision.
  • Participate in design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, and documentation activities.
  • Aid in laboratory testing and validation of components and assemblies.
  • Assist with VAVE projects, product enhancements, and sustaining engineering tasks.

Other

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering (junior or senior level preferred)
  • Must be local to Milwaukee / Glendale, WI, or commutable distance
  • U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work full-time during summer; part-time during school year may be possible
  • Must be willing to prepare technical reports, maintain lab equipment, and organize test setups
