Google's Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.

Requirements

  • Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools and analysis tools (e.g., 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, Solidworks, ANSYS, or other FEA tools).
  • Experience in mechanical design, liquid cooling, and analysis in a hyperscale data center environment.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering and design principles with specific expertise in the areas of design for medium-scale production, sheet metal and injection molding, structural and thermal analysis.
  • Experience in designing complex electro-mechanical assemblies with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of chip/socket/cooling solution stack-ups, structural behavior, and reliability.
  • Ability to architect solutions backed by business case analysis.
  • Relevant academic, internship, work, or personal project experience designing mechanical components (e.g., cooling systems, plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes).

Responsibilities

  • Own and design entire product design life-cycle including requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design with analysis, verification testing, cross-functional reviews, and manufacturing release.
  • Develop and execute designs for complex systems backed by thorough engineering analysis.
  • Create test plans, perform testing, and validate designs to meet engineering requirements and troubleshoot, root cause, and resolve potential technical issues.
  • Influence the products by providing mechanical and product design engineering expertise into the technology road-map with data-driven decisions.
  • Identify and scope projects around innovation opportunities as well as technology risks.
  • Provide engineering knowledge and mentor team members.
  • design and evaluate systems, identify product requirements, prepare system-related documentation and contribute to research and project planning.

Other

  • PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
