PayPal is seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join the Autorouting Cloud and Systems Engineering team to build and support core infrastructure and aggregation services for PayPal Site and Dev environments, ensuring the PayPal site remains operational.
Requirements
- More than 8 years of experience supporting enterprise load balancing technology or service mesh
- Strong experience with F5 BIG-IP, VMWare AVI Vantage Load Balancers or any other enterprise-scale load balancers
- Working knowledge of service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) for secure and efficient service communication and observability.
- Working experience in a hybrid cloud environment
- Experience managing infrastructure via enterprise monitoring tools [Splunk, Datadog, OTEL] and the ability to write custom scripts/plugins for custom monitoring is a plus.
- Experience with load balancing techniques and solutions within Kubernetes ecosystems, including ingress controllers, native service load balancing, and global traffic management.
- In-depth understanding of observability and open telemetry logs ingestion, pattern tracing, and bottleneck identification.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical excellence to load balancing and aggregation services, to setup, build and architect load balancing services across security and availability zones in a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Implement and manage service mesh technologies (such as Istio, Linkerd) to enable secure, observable, and manageable service-to-service communication within microservices environments.
- In-depth troubleshooting skills to support on-call rotation to keep core services (Load Balancers, GSLB, and service mesh) up and running 24x7
- Lead architecture decisions around load balancing in both traditional and containerized environments, including Kubernetes ingress controllers and service mesh load balancing capabilities.
- Maintain a healthy on-call rotation (PST daytime hours available) to support key services
- Collaborate with peers from other teams/orgs and address common problems via solution engineering.
