The Ohio State University's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is looking to solve the problem of understanding and treating severe mental health conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors through innovative research and clinical trials.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling or education accepted by the State of Ohio for licensure.
- Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II or III (LCDC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) required.
- Training and certification in the evidence-based psychotherapy modalities specific to assigned research projects will be required (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention, cognitive processing therapy for PTSD, prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD).
- Knowledge of growth and development and an understanding of the range of treatments necessary to meet the age-specific needs of the patient population served.
- Knowledge of and comfort in working with research participants and their families/support systems with diverse racial and cultural backgrounds who are experiencing severe emotional illness.
- Thorough knowledge of the DSM-5 and mental health diagnoses within the ICD-10.
- Experience with electronic health records and research databases.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for patients with mental health complaints.
- Within the context of approved research studies, provide psychotherapy to individuals with mental & behavioral disorders to facilitate return to previous or improved functioning.
- Formulate individualized treatment plans to assist patients to determine and meet treatment goals.
- Follow research protocols developed by study investigators.
- Complete comprehensive diagnostic evaluation to patients referred to the Division of Recovery and Resilience for outpatient psychotherapy research studies.
- Provide evidence-based psychotherapies to a caseload of research participants with mental and behavioral disorders.
- Communicate with the study investigators and team about participant progress and status.
