Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a Scientist focused on Metal Additive Manufacturing Research and Development for the Advanced Engineering Division to develop an externally funded project portfolio aligned with SRNL mission enablers of data-driven materials development and developing manufacturing solutions for Environmental Management, the NNSA, and energy security.
Requirements
- background and working knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques as well as the fundamental concepts and behavior of metallic materials.
- exercise judgment with practical engineering or scientific principles to determine an appropriate action.
- experience in proposal development, publications, and networking within their field.
- Additive Manufacturing areas of interest may include, on-machine monitoring, machine learning, alloy development, materials synthesis, process modeling, etc.
- using feedstock characterization and analysis, equipment toolpath and parameter development, and characterizing printed metallic parts.
Responsibilities
- develop an externally funded project portfolio aligned with SRNL mission enablers of data-driven materials development and developing manufacturing solutions for Environmental Management, the NNSA, and energy security.
- leading and partnering on proposal teams as well as managing both technical and programmatic aspects of successfully won projects responsibilities.
- background and working knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques as well as the fundamental concepts and behavior of metallic materials.
- exercise judgment with practical engineering or scientific principles to determine an appropriate action.
- experience in proposal development, publications, and networking within their field.
- using feedstock characterization and analysis, equipment toolpath and parameter development, and characterizing printed metallic parts.
Other
- Ph.D. in related field with 2 or more years of relevant experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
- Successful candidates will have completed at least one post-doctoral appointment or 2 years of relevant work experience since completing their PhD.
- Successful performance as a principal investigator (PI) on interdisciplinary research projects.
- Successful customer/sponsor relationship management
