Steel Dynamics is seeking metallurgy interns to contribute to the development of a state-of-the-art, low-carbon recycled aluminum flat rolled mill. The internship aims to provide hands-on experience in applying engineering principles to equipment, systems, and processes, with a focus on improving production success through technical analysis and practical application.

- Machine center exposure: Ingot scalping (surface preparation)
- Machine center exposure: Industrial preheating furnaces (homogenization)
- Machine center exposure: Hot rolling mills (metal processing)
Responsibilities
- Design of experiments management on mechanical properties development associated with process modifications
- Microstructural characterization of hot rolled products
- Recovery % reduction via process optimization
- Quality monitoring of rolled products to meet downstream stakeholder & customer tolerances and specifications
- Metal quality processing development for sampling frequency and evaluation (process control)
- In-process testing and analysis of aluminum products
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving related to metallurgical processes

- This internship will take place in person.
