General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc. is looking to solve problems related to advanced photonic and laser technologies, including free-space optical (FSO) and fiber optic communications, photonic integrated circuits, active and passive optical remote sensing and imaging, microwave photonics and quantum technologies.
Requirements
- Experience in the use of optical and electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories
- Knowledge of telecommunication applications and electrical engineering design tools
- Experience with optical and RF test and measurement equipment and laboratory tools
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: Matlab, Lumerical, Zemax, VPI, Python, C/C++, LabView
- Experience with optical hardware prototyping and field testing (Preferred)
- Experience developing and testing advanced communications systems (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- design, develop, build and test systems and products for advanced photonic and laser technologies
- interacting with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in the overall development of optical and photonic systems
- specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive components
- developing and benchmarking system performance models
- developing and implementing test procedures
- evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation
- recognizing and clearly reporting information relevant to engineering design
Other
- Ability to obtain a Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire
- U.S. citizenship is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and multi-task
