The University of Texas at Austin is looking to solve the problem of maintaining and repairing its telecommunications infrastructure by hiring an Outside Plant Technical Trades Crew Leader.
Requirements
- At least five years’ experience in maintenance and repair of telecommunications crafts trade (placing outside plant cable to include fiber optic and copper cable, fiber and copper cable splicing/terminating, working with cable air pressure)
- Ability to read and understand safety placards and follow OSHA rules and regulation.
- Completion of related technical courses.
- 5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and splicing Fiber optic cables.
- 5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and splicing copper cables.
- 5+ years of experience with troubleshooting and repair of pressurized cable plant.
- Experience with creating cable certification reports.
Responsibilities
- Lead full-time employees and contractors on the job site.
- Relay instructions, scheduling and assigning work in the absence of the supervisor.
- Inspect completed work.
- Perform work typical of the craft and/or job classification of those workers in the group (placing fiber and copper cable through manhole and tunnel systems, splicing, troubleshooting and testing copper and fiber etc.)
- Inspect work area for protection/including Safety hazard warnings.
- Assist supervisor with creating estimates.
- Enter time on work orders.
Other
- Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.
- Must be available for after-hours work and coordination effort.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must maintain internet service and a mobile phone with voice and data plans to be used when required for work.
- Must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence.
