The College of Agricultural Sciences Department of Food Science at Penn State is seeking to hire students to conduct research in the area of food chemistry/food microbiology, leading to peer-reviewed publication and assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) with grant preparation.
Requirements
- Knowledge of food chemistry/food microbiology
- Ability to conduct independent literature searches
- Ability to prepare summaries of research projects
- Ability to perform analytical procedures and protocols
- Ability to collect and analyze data
- Ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate student researchers
- Knowledge of laboratory protocols and procedures
Responsibilities
- Conduct organized research in the area of food chemistry/food microbiology
- Perform independent literature searches and prepare summaries of topics pertinent to ongoing and future research
- Prepare summaries of research projects conducted in the laboratory
- Conduct research under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) leading to peer reviewed publication
- Perform analytical procedures and protocols as directed
- Collect and analyze data from ongoing research projects
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate student researchers in the lab

- Must be a current Penn State employee or student, or apply as an external applicant
- Must complete background check(s) in accordance with University policies
- Must be able to maintain inventory and order research supplies and materials as needed
- Must be able to assure that purchasing card transactions are reconciled in a timely manner
- Must be able to maintain files (electronic) of protocols
