The Schatz Center for Tree Molecular Genetics at Penn State seeks part-time research assistants to assist with conservation and restoration genetics of forest trees.

Attention to detail.
Ability to follow instructions.
Willingness to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
Ability to work independently as well as within a group.
Interest in plant biology, geography, and the environment.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to occasionally lift or move material weighing up to 50lbs, with or without accommodation.
Responsibilities
Setting up and maintaining experiments in the field, greenhouse, and lab.
Field plot maintenance.
Field data collection and entry.
Greenhouse maintenance, including the propagation and planting of trees.
Processing plant material for sequencing, including DNA extractions and gel electrophoresis.
Organizing lab equipment and supplies.
Contributing to the maintenance of shared lab spaces.

Preference will be given to full-time registered Penn State undergraduate students.
Must be willing to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in the greenhouse.
Employment requires successful completion of background check(s) and a motor vehicle records check.
A valid driver’s license is required.
