A Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation employer partner is seeking a Pattern Maker - Product Manager to manage complex product development processes and deliver high-quality medical and pressure relief products.
Requirements
- Extensive hands-on experience in traditional pattern making for garments, cushions, or similar textile products.
- Expert sewing skills and deep understanding of fabric and foam behavior.
- Proven project management experience—able to guide products from concept/specification to finished goods.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Spanish fluency a plus.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Receive and fully understand customer specifications.
- Translate specs into hand-drafted patterns or digital formats in collaboration with the digitizer.
- Ensure the correct fabrics, foams, and other materials are available for production.
- Oversee sewing operators to guarantee proper execution of the design.
- Inspect and approve the finished product for quality before it ships to the customer.
- Take management’s product vision or ideas and develop new patterns and prototypes.
- Apply expert knowledge of sewing, textiles, and foam behavior to create functional and aesthetically pleasing designs.
Other
- Minimum of 5–7 years of pattern-making experience; 10+ years preferred for candidates with full end-to-end production experience.
