Arup is looking for interns to help them see things differently and solve complex challenges facing their clients, climate, and communities by designing sustainable plumbing and fire protection systems within the built environment.
Requirements
- Coursework in fluid hydraulics/piping/fluid dynamics
- EIT/ FE certification
- Revit or 3D modeling experience
- Computer programming languages (e.g., Dynamo, Python, Grasshopper)
Responsibilities
- Design of Plumbing and Fire Protection systems within the built environment, with an emphasis on sustainable design
- Support designing plumbing systems such as domestic water, sanitary/vent, and storm systems
- Support designing fire protection systems fire sprinkler and standpipe systems
- Undertaking and documenting engineering analysis work, including code research, load calculations, and equipment sizing, in a clear manner
- Document system design in Revit MEP
- Write reports documenting calculation methods and results, design assumptions, and other technical information
- Assisting in construction administration activities such as site visits and submittal reviews
Other
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, architectural, civil, or environmental engineering
- Shown interest in the built environment and sustainable development
- Ability to collaborate with clients
- Good time management habits, ability to multi-task, ability to sustain focus on long tasks
- Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way
- Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity
- Ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our changing environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed for team-based working
- Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.
- Membership in ASPE, ASSE, ASHRAE, NFPA, or SFPE
- Courses in sustainability or USGBC participation
- Internship experience in engineering-related firm or evidence of extracurricular activity in the field
- Shown ability to perform in a paid work environment with intermittent supervision
- Past history of technical presentations and technical writing
