The Aurora Police Department seeks to hire an ambitious Data Analyst for a position within the Professional Standards Section / Crime and Data Analysis Section, with an emphasis on strategic crime analysis. The selected candidate will work in an environment of high demand, performing analysis duties and developing analysis products in support of APD’s rapidly evolving Crime and Data Analysis efforts.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of working with SQL
- Knowledge of analytical skills and techniques used for data analysis.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and relational databases.
- Knowledge of mapping software, intelligence applications and open source sites used to identify pertinent information and conduct analysis.
- Skilled in conducting analysis, compiling statistics and presenting findings.
- Skilled in the use of personal computers, databases, software programs and applications.
- Ability to write queries against data sources that allow forward-looking strategic insights for our District and Department to use in decision making.
Responsibilities
- Use a variety of computer applications, electronic spreadsheets, mapping software, word processing, and statistical applications to conduct crime and data analysis.
- Identify and collect data factors using a variety of police reports to track patterns, forecast trends, and report actionable findings that inform resource deployment.
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from a variety of sources that can be used for tactical and strategic crime analysis.
- Create, maintain, and develop high quality dashboards that provide easy to understand analysis on a variety of crime related topics.
- Query public safety databases (RMS, NCIC/CCIC, Accurint, Lumen, Linx, etc.) to collect, analyze, interpret, evaluate and disseminate crime, arrest, intelligence, operational, and procedural data using modern data and program analysis techniques.
- Correlate new information with existing information to identify emerging, evolving or existing patterns, series, and hotspot activity.
- Work to identify new solutions to connect data to strategic decision-making and resource deployment.
