Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to contribute to cutting-edge research in high-performance computing (HPC), energy-aware computing, and specialized computer architectures supporting DOE sciences.
Requirements
- Proficiency in programming with C/C++, Python, Verilog, and Chisel
- Experience with HPC development environments (e.g., MPI, OpenMP)
- Experience with EDA tools (e.g., Cadence, Synopsys)
- Experience with open-source hardware tools such as Chipyard, Verilator, Cocotb, or OpenROAD
Responsibilities
- investigating energy-efficiency bottlenecks on advanced HPC platforms (e.g., Argonne’s Aurora) through workload profiling under varied configurations
- co-designing specialized computer architectures
- implementing and verifying them at the register-transfer level (RTL)
- exploring novel chip design methodologies that leverage HPC systems and AI
- researching emerging energy-efficient processor designs to recommend architectural strategies that address today’s bottlenecks

- Recently completed bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated (or potential) ability to write publications and present scientific results
- Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the laboratory
