Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking to perform research using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) with a focus on large language models (LLMs) and foundation models (FMs) relevant to electric power systems to ensure the energy security and operational reliability of electric power systems.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field, with a strong foundation in artificial intelligence and machine learning, particularly in LLMs and FMs
- Demonstrated ability to leverage LLM and/or FM in advanced technical areas
- Experience with/knowledge of modeling complex engineering systems
- Knowledge of/experience with modeling, simulation, dynamics, and control of complex systems such as power grids
- Knowledge of/experience in energy systems, including familiarity with commonly used tools, frameworks, cybersecurity, and best practices
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques for power system planning, operation, control, and cybersecurity, with a particular focus on grid applications of large language models (LLMs) and foundation models (FMs) to ensure the energy security and operational reliability of electric power systems.
Other
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to take direction effectively and collaborate within interdisciplinary project teams
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
- BNL policy requires that after obtaining a PhD, eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position, excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness or other life-changing events.
