Bowdoin College is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to support the development of the Hastings Initiative for AI and Humanity, integrating the study of artificial intelligence with the college’s liberal arts mission.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of large language models, generative AI, prompt engineering, and AI ethics
- Practical and/or research experience with artificial intelligence, including college-level coursework
- Intermediate proficiency in Google Suite and Teams/MS Office Suite
Responsibilities
- organizing and executing initiative-sponsored workshops, symposia, and related events
- supporting HIAIH-affiliated faculty and postdoctoral fellows with research and teaching tasks
- helping to develop materials for workshops and courses related to the initiative
- developing multimedia resources and maintaining the initiative’s digital presence
- setting up and troubleshooting AI platforms for demonstrations and faculty use

- PhD required
- Strong ability to work in collaborative relationships with a variety of Bowdoin students, staff members, and faculty
- Ability to quickly learn new skills
- Ability to work independently and without significant supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Based on-site at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, the standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
