Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Cyber Software Engineer to join their Cross-Domain Handling of Releasable Data (CHORD) portfolio, which is a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) two-domain Cross Domain Solution (CDS). The role aims to develop, maintain, and enhance complex and secure software systems, ensuring resilience against emerging threats and influencing the security posture of their software systems.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding of threat modeling, risk management, and vulnerability management frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO27001)
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, security architectures, and secure coding best practices
  • Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix operating systems and managing security policies (e.g., SELinux or comparable MAC implementations)
  • Demonstrated experience developing software using Java, Rust, C, C++, or C-Sharp
  • Proven track record of designing, deploying, and maintaining secure software solutions integrated with cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Experience using Bash or similar scripting languages to automate tasks
  • Experience configuring and using SonarQube, Fortify, or other code analyzers

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and secure software systems based upon documented requirements.
  • Review and test software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results.
  • Resolves software problem reports.
  • Utilizes secure software development and secure software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.
  • Bring a strong background in software development combined with hands-on cybersecurity expertise, ensuring that our technology remains resilient against emerging threats.
  • Influence the security posture of our software systems while working on challenging projects in a dynamic environment.

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field and 5 years of related technical experience; Master’s degree in a STEM field and 3 years of related technical experience, or PHD in a STEM field and 1 year of related technical experience
  • Prior experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Current DoD 8140 Certification IAT Level II or higher (Security+, CISSP, etc.) or ability to obtain one within 6 months
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions.
