The Carlyle Group seeks a Principal-level Digital and Artificial Intelligence (AI) leader to join its Global Portfolio Solutions group to identify value creation levers, architect enterprise-level transformation initiatives, and provide support in implementing digital and AI programs to accelerate growth, mitigate risk, and create significant long-term value in Carlyle’s investments.
Requirements
- Full-stack digital and AI expertise in subject matter areas including but not limited to: digital-enabled go-to-market, digital product development, IoT and digital operations, data science and applied AI.
- Strong grasp of digital and AI fundamentals and their application across business functions.
- Skilled at translating digital and AI capabilities into business outcomes, especially in functional areas such as customer service, finance, supply chain, marketing, and product development.
- Familiarity with AI-native architectures, modern data science platforms, and integration patterns.
- Hands-on digital and AI leadership, ideally within a scale-up or AI-focused product company.
- Proven success delivering end-to-end initiatives from strategy through deployment in commercial or operational contexts.
- Able to conduct deep original research and discovery on an open opportunity set, shape ideation and evidence-based insights into coherent hypotheses, and drive orthogonal thinking in problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Lead digital and AI strategy across portfolio companies, shaping initiatives that drive growth, mitigate risk, and create long-term value.
- Identify and implement high-impact digital and AI use cases – from operational improvements (e.g., customer care, HR, legal) to revenue drivers (e.g., pricing, personalization, marketing automation) to working capital management (e.g., optimal inventory levels, AR, AP).
- Lead proof-of-concept sprints (typically 4 to 8 weeks) with portfolio company leaders and vendors to validate opportunities.
- Productize digital and AI value creation levers where applicable.
- Develop AI playbooks and digital transformation roadmaps tailored to industry verticals and company maturity.
- Assess digital and AI maturity, architecture, and capabilities during pre-investment diligence.
- Evaluate opportunities to enhance product defensibility, data assets, and infrastructure through AI.
