Requirements

  • Strong understanding of design software tools as used in modelling (CAD) and analysis (FEM)
  • Experience working with gas turbines for aviation product applications from a mechanical and aero design perspective.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Experience working with additive manufacturing technologies and familiarity with design for additive manufacturing principles.
  • Bearings, seals, and drives expertise as it pertains to expendable systems

Responsibilities

  • Set the vision for the mechanical systems within the broader engine system and lead a cross-functional team of engineers from aerodynamic, thermal, mechanical, material, and manufacturing disciplines to execute analytical, design, and programmatic milestones as required from the business.
  • Serve as the mechanical systems design subject matter expert as part of a diverse system design team. Ensure products and sub-systems meet overall requirements from a design perspective. Lead component and system trades from a module perspective. Coordinate with cross-functional team to optimize the overall system to meet product requirements.
  • Execute design and analysis tasks across disciplines where needed in mechanical systems to support the broader team including performing static, dynamic vibration, shock, plasticity, interference, contact, and fatigue analysis.
  • Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, performance, stress and life, additive manufacturing, materials and system analysis.
  • Set test objectives and limits, instrumentation and test data requirements, and test planning to execute component validation.
  • Lead methodologies to develop new technologies to optimize the overall performance of a gas turbine with additive manufacturing. Participate in the research and development of technologies and methodologies associated with additive design to drive further capability in mechanical systems.
  • Work with suppliers to procure hardware and resolve producibility and quality issues.

  • At least 12+ years of experience in mechanical systems design
  • Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability.
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
