Super Micro Computer is seeking a Principal Product Manager - Generators to lead the end-to-end lifecycle of their generator product line, including diesel generator sets, integrated canopies, and service solutions, to drive market leadership in backup power solutions for data centers and critical infrastructure.
Requirements
- In-depth understanding of genset architecture, engine dynamics (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar), and canopy integration
- Familiarity with data center power redundancy (N+1, 2N) and grid resiliency solutions
- Proficiency in root-cause analysis for product failures and warranty management
- Proven expertise in UL certification processes for gensets/canopies and regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA Tier 4, EU Stage V)
- Experience in generator quality control, field service operations, and technical support frameworks
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
- Familiarity with diesel generators, backup power systems, or critical infrastructure
Responsibilities
- Own product vision, roadmap, and go-to-market strategies for diesel generators, ensuring alignment with Supermicro’s sustainability goals
- Manage genset and canopy UL certifications (e.g., UL 2200 for gensets, UL 891 for enclosures), overseeing testing, documentation, and compliance audits
- Lead product development from concept to end-of-life (EOL), coordinating with engineering, compliance, and manufacturing teams
- Define and enforce generator quality standards, including reliability testing, failure analysis, and field performance metrics
- Develop service support frameworks, including warranty policies, technician training, and spare parts logistics
- Analyze market trends in backup power solutions, targeting data center, enterprise, and edge computing segments
- Drive execution of product roadmaps across R&D, sales, and supply chain teams
Other
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Master’s degree preferred
- 15+ years in product management, with 5+ years focused on diesel generators, backup power systems, or critical infrastructure
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate with C-suite stakeholders
- Track record of building customer-driven product strategies and market differentiation
- Travel to industry events (e.g., energy conferences) and build relationships with key OEMs/ISVs
