KBR is looking to solve the problem of ensuring the quality and continuous improvement of operational satellite-derived products for current and future NOAA geostationary satellite missions by leading scientific coordination, calibration/validation strategy, and data product system development.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in space-based remote sensing, including NOAA/NASA operational satellite systems
  • Deep expertise in calibration/validation techniques for visible and infrared imaging systems (e.g., ABI, VIIRS, MODIS)
  • Proven technical contributions to algorithm development for geostationary satellite data products
  • Fluency with scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, C, IDL, R)
  • Experience with Agile project management, cloud services (AWS), and configuration tools such as ClearQuest/ClearCase
  • Direct involvement in the GOES-R or GeoXO programs, particularly in instrument product trending or algorithm coordination
  • Hands-on use or development experience with the GOES-R ABI Trending and Data Analysis Toolkit (GRATDAT)

Responsibilities

  • lead scientific coordination, calibration/validation strategy, and data product system development for current and future NOAA geostationary satellite missions.
  • interface with instrument scientists, algorithm developers, and product stakeholders to ensure the quality and continuous improvement of operational satellite-derived products.
  • guide migration efforts of satellite data systems into cloud-based architectures.
  • Deep expertise in calibration/validation techniques for visible and infrared imaging systems (e.g., ABI, VIIRS, MODIS)
  • Experience leading scientific teams and managing post-launch product validation campaigns
  • Proven technical contributions to algorithm development for geostationary satellite data products
  • Experience with Agile project management, cloud services (AWS), and configuration tools such as ClearQuest/ClearCase

Other

  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, Imaging Science, Remote Sensing, or a related field
  • Experience leading scientific teams and managing post-launch product validation campaigns
  • Excellent communication skills, with a history of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
  • Leadership in transitioning large-scale satellite data processing from on-premise to cloud environments
  • A record of awards or recognition for scientific excellence or quality improvement (e.g., Robert H. Goddard awards
