Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence, and is looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer in the Azure SQL Database team to design and build a massively scalable distributed database system
Requirements
- Coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing high-performance systems related to database servers, networking, storage drivers or kernel operation systems
- Specialized knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Database systems, Operating system internals, Distributed systems, Windows development
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements and incorporate them in future designs
- Lead by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products
- Lead efforts to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility across solutions and teams
- Leverage subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders to drive multiple groups' project plans, release plans, and work items
- Maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis

Other
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements
- Effective problem-solving, debugging, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
