Spectrum is seeking to shape the future of web service infrastructure for next-generation products by hiring a Principal Software Engineer II to lead a new Connected Home – Embedded Software Engineering team focused on developing solutions for CPE (DOCSIS, PON, WiFi router, and WiFi extender).
Requirements
- Thorough understanding of software engineering and object-oriented design principles.
- Effective and current development experience in Java and web technologies.
- Experience with dependency management and continuous integration testing tools.
- Extensive knowledge and implementation with open source software (Spring, Hibernate, Apache Commons, Tomcat, MySQL, Guava, Tomcat, and NoSQL solutions) Java, Spring, Google Guice, JPA/Hibernate, Databases, RESTful web services, AWS, Micro services, Netflix OSS, Jersey, SOAP web services, Axis, JMS, ESB’s, XML, XSD, XSL, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Apache open source libraries, Maven, Git, Eclipse/NetBeans/IntelliJ, continuous integration testing, shell scripting, Ruby.
- Embedded software engineering experience in Linux / C / RUST.
- Cable / Telecommunications: RDK-B, RDK-V, DOCSIS, OpenWRT.
- Protocols: TR069, TR369, SNMP, TCP, UDP, TCP/IP, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, MQTT.
Responsibilities
- Oversee complex and critical projects that involve several technical systems and constituents.
- Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems in assigned areas.
- Write code and integrate packages (software/application), and writing supporting test cases: (e.g. unit, devtest, automation) for various project assignments and provide recommendations to peer review coding sessions.
- Create custom embedded linux distributions leveraging OpenWRT, or Ubuntu and tools such as Yocto.
- Maintain subject matter expertise in embedded Linux software programming in language C, domain architecture, industry tools and trends in order to give strategic recommendation and provide technical support to these areas as needed.
- Utilize GitLab pipelines; create and run ansible playbooks.
- Develop embedded software engineering solutions via Linux / C / RUST.

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience
- 12+ years of software engineering experience
