Apple Inc is looking to lead the end-to-end design and engineering integration of a next generation overmolded iPhone display module, accounting for critical features such as manufacturability, reliability, watersealing, and antenna performance.
Requirements
- Using 3D CAD to model your own novel mechanical and electromechanical components, including the incorporation of complex industrial design surfaces.
- Designing for manufacturability (DFM), including familiarity with display overmolding, flexible printed circuit board fabrication, sheet metal stamping, plastic and metal injection molding, or CNC machining, to ensure parts can be produced at high volume using both existing and new equipment and processes.
- Designing for assembly (DFA) to enable high speed assembly operations with high repeatability.
- Conducting tolerance stack-up analysis to guarantee components assemble and perform as expected across entire range of manufacturing variation.
- Conducting static and dynamic mechanical analyses to ensure designs meet load objectives at time zero and across all critical stress types including drop, bend, and impact.
- Applying mechanics of materials principles in communication with other designers and collaborators on the interaction between material behavior and product performance.
- Applying finite element method fundamentals during collaboration with subject matter experts on simulations of parts and complex systems subjected to a variety of test conditions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design and engineering integration of a next generation overmolded iPhone display module, accounting for critical features such as manufacturability, reliability, watersealing, and antenna performance.
- Work closely with a range of technical and operations disciplines spanning many cross-functional teams to define engineering requirements and manage the resolution of challenges associated with integrating key technologies into the product.
- Partner with overseas manufacturers to ensure designed parts are mass producible.
- Resolve issues and ensure the design meets requirements throughout its lifecycle by applying mechanical and material engineering principles to conduct failure analysis and determine root cause.
- Parse and synthesize large datasets and complicated design details into visual summaries that clearly communicate issues and proposed solutions.
- Develop innovative analysis tools and methods to assess performance of new, breakthrough technologies invented for iPhone.
- Providing time-sensitive remote and in-factory support on manufacturing and assembly issues related to product performance, process yields, or efficiency.

- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
- Creating and reviewing technical drawings for communicating design intent with peers and suppliers, including proper controls on critical features.
- Base pay range for this role is between $181,100 - $272,100/yr
