Nichols Portland is looking to expand its product development team by hiring a Product Development Engineer to provide engineering services and project management for new product commercialization, engineering contracts, and R&D programs.

Requirements

  • CAD Experience; Autodesk Inventor preferred
  • Advanced analysis abilities preferred (FEA, CFD, Simulation)
  • GD&T and Strong Mechanical Design experience preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (automotive, electrical, or hydraulics experience helpful)
  • Demonstrated (formally or informally) mechanical aptitude
  • Strong computer skills: Excel, PowerPoint, Word

Responsibilities

  • Move projects through phases of the Nichols Portland new product development process
  • Continually assess the technical risk/viability of the project; including manufacturability (if applicable)
  • Summarize deliverables and receive team approval to advance projects - Concept through Launch, Including advanced prototyping, design and analysis, fabrication, testing, test data analysis, and final reports
  • Coordinate meetings to consider production and prototype costs, assembly processes, design accuracy, durability, and performance
  • Interact with vendors – collect and review pertinent information, determine compatibility, create and follow selection criteria, generate purchase orders
  • Assist with testing and troubleshooting
  • Develop new testing and analysis techniques (hardware and software)

Other

  • Work with cross-functional teams to update project costs and overall business case
  • Arrange team meetings for brainstorming new ideas or problem solving as needed
  • Maintain Project Information, including Customer Communications, Test Data, and Timelines
  • Interface with customers – request information, drawings, equipment, clarification; provide status reports; respond to questions
  • Adhere to safety standards
