Seagate's Recording Head Technology (RHT) department is looking to integrate emerging technology into new products to meet specific mechanical and reliability performance requirements, ensuring manufacturable head designs and optimal product performance.

Requirements

  • Experience in data acquisition and time-series analysis, as well as optical and metrology methods such as LDV, thermal metrology, AFM, SEM, XPS, Raman, or Auger.
  • Strong background in mathematical, physical, and engineering analysis.
  • Experience with experimental design, data acquisition, time-series (FFT) analysis, material testing and characterization, particle doping, and statistical analysis of data.
  • Expertise in fluid dynamics, tribology, material science (thin films), thermodynamics, structural dynamics and mechanics, electromechanical systems, surface chemistry, and small particle technology.
  • Basic understanding of statistics and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Head-Gimbal-Assembly (HGA) mechanical design and specifications, thermo-mechanical design migration plans, and customer support activities.
  • Manage component and drive experiments, prototype and pre-production builds, component and drive performance, and effectively communicate key findings to a broad audience.
  • Collaborate with engineering groups, applying expertise in fluid dynamics, tribology, material science (thin films), thermodynamics, structural dynamics and mechanics, electromechanical systems, surface chemistry, and small particle technology.
  • Draw from experience with experimental design, data acquisition, time-series (FFT) analysis, material testing and characterization, particle doping, and statistical analysis of data.
  • Recognize the strengths and limitations of both modeling and experimental methods, maintaining focus on gaining fundamental understanding and validated performance to deliver optimized product designs.
  • Integrate emerging technology into new products to meet specific mechanical and reliability performance requirements.
  • Work closely with the head design team, drive team, and Far East production teams to ensure that manufacturable head designs are developed and that performance meets drive requirements.

Other

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a diverse, global environment, engaging effectively with colleagues across multiple time zones.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with the product core team, drive customers, Far East production sites, and internal functional groups on highly technical issues involving overall mechanical product design and performance.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a proven track record as a problem solver.
  • Travel: Up to 10%
