The Washington Post is seeking a Product Lead for Conversational AI to shape the future of how audiences engage with news and information through emerging GenAI interfaces.

Requirements

  • Understanding of Generative AI technical foundations (LLMs, prompt-engineering, RAG, fine tuning etc.)
  • Proven Experience leading cross-functional product development in conversational agents or voice assistants.
  • Strong product judgment and user-centric mindset, with a track record of delivering innovative, conversational experiences.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business or a related field.
  • Masters or other advanced degree in Business, AI/ML, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of Generative AI technical foundations (LLMs, prompt-engineering, RAG, fine tuning etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of product managers, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and day-to-day support to ensure clarity, alignment, and impact.
  • Own and evolve the product strategy and roadmap for conversational AI across platforms, aligning with company priorities around audience growth, personalization, and AI innovation.
  • Guide the creation of AI-powered assistants, chat interfaces, and other natural language tools that help users engage with the news in more intuitive, meaningful ways.
  • Collaborate closely with editorial and newsroom partners to ensure our experiences are journalistically sound, aligned with our standards, and contribute to audience trust.
  • Partner with Data and AI/ML teams to inform and improve underlying models using product telemetry, editorial input, and real user feedback.
  • Define and monitor success metrics, iterating based on both quantitative signals and qualitative insights.

Other

  • 7+ years of consumer product management experience, including at least 1–2 years managing or mentoring other product managers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business or a related field.
  • Clear communicator who can represent product priorities across editorial, technical, and executive audiences.
  • Proven ability to set a compelling vision, rally stakeholders, and drive alignment across teams.
  • Collaboration and teamwork, with ability to work on-site five days a week
