The University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications is seeking to address the evolving landscape of journalism in the face of technological advancements, particularly in areas like AI, social media, and disinformation, to ensure journalism's survival and thriving in the next technological age.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience with evidence of work in emerging technology
  • Evidence of thought or professional leadership at the intersection of journalism and technology
  • Work with artificial intelligence in professional journalism environments
  • Evidence of ability to teach or coach early-career journalists
  • Experience in one or more of these areas: interactive journalism, artificial intelligence and other technology as reporting and/or engagement tools, user experience, content design or a similar related field

Responsibilities

  • Conduct public scholarship, outreach, instruction and/or training focused on issues involving journalism and technology
  • Teach courses in emerging technologies that journalism students will use not only to present information but to better understand how technology can support audience engagement and community-connected journalism
  • Teach two courses per semester with an emphasis on advanced skill development in their areas of specialty and that fit into the department of journalism's curriculum
  • Conduct professional outreach based on the candidate's skills, interest and experience
  • Publishing analysis or reported pieces in news media or other public-facing publications
  • Presenting and lecturing to stakeholders, including journalism and academic organizations
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, such as the Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology

  • Evidence of ability to teach or coach early-career journalists
