Clemson University is seeking a Quantitative Population Geneticist to develop and apply innovative methods and tools for crop conservation and utilization, aiming to advance research and development by linking multi-omics, data science, and phenomic technologies to discover and optimize novel traits for pre-breeding or breeding programs.
Requirements
- Doctoral / Professional Degree - Quantitative or Population Genetics as related to conservation or agricultural applications.
- 2+ years successful experience managing and executing research projects.
- Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations
Responsibilities
- Develop deep understanding of the continuum of crop conservation and improvement to ensure successful application of strategies and methods in the development of unique products from crops.
- Lead or participate to trait discovery projects focusing on crop resilience and quality including planning, design, coordination, and execution in collaboration with a multidisciplinary breeding and research team.
- Analyze large data set including multi-omics and phenotypic data and generating predictions models or tools to optimize product development.
- Support genebank repositories and breeding teams to facilitate the implementation of new methods for conservation and improvement.
- Contributing to research strategies for improved conservation and utilization.
- Preparing and contributing to project documentation, scientific reports, publications, and presentations that clearly convey progress and challenges.
- Lead the generation of high-quality structural and functional genomic resources for complex species, contribute to discover genes (and associated traits) ultimately enabling the geneticists and breeders to improve crop resilience and quality.
