Texas A&M University Health Science Center's Microbial Pathogenesis And Immunology department is seeking a Research Assistant to support research projects by planning and performing experiments, providing administrative assistance, and supervising trainees. The role also involves participating in an outreach project for high school students, requiring organization, participant interaction, and administrative support.
Requirements
- Ability to perform experiments with rodents that include anesthesia and injections.
- Ability to perform immunohistochemistry.
- Ability to perform fluorescence microscopy.
- Ability to perform flow cytometry experiments.
- Ability to design, plan, coordinate and execute experiments using standard techniques of routine research in support of various projects in the lab including, but not limited to cell culture, microscopy, and rodent husbandry.
- Ability and willingness to learn and apply new techniques specific to this lab and apply them to conduct experiments.
- Ability to use standard computer programs to perform data analysis including statistical analysis and technical evaluation of research results.
Responsibilities
- Plans and performs experiments related to research projects in the laboratory
- Provides administrative assistance with ordering supplies and maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies (for example, IACUC and IBC)
- Supervises undergraduate trainees in the laboratory
- Participates in the outreach project for high school student in the Texas Rio Grande Valley, organizing high school student activities, obtaining consent and administering surveys to the participants, and administrative assistance with ordering supplies for the project and maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies (IRB)
- Assists in the design, planning, coordination, and execution of experiments using standard techniques of routine research in support of various projects in the laboratory.
- Uses standard computer programs to perform data analysis including statistical analysis and technical evaluation of research results.
- Evaluates and summarizes results for written and oral presentation.
Other
- Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in a biological science (e.g. Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering)
- Class C Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to positively and professionally interact with faculty, staff, trainees, and groups of various sizes.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
