Texas A&M University is looking for a Research Assistant to provide technical support for analytical chemistry projects in the Rusyn Lab, focusing on sample preparation, extraction, and analysis of biological and chemical samples using advanced mass spectrometry techniques.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with sample preparation and analytical chemistry methods.
  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry instrumentation (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, IMS-QTOF/MS).
  • Proficiency with data analysis software (e.g., MassHunter, Analyst, or similar) and general lab software (Excel, Prism).
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and specialized sample extractions for chemical analysis.
  • Assists with method development and optimization for targeted and untargeted workflows.
  • Operates and maintains analytical instrumentation, including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, and IMS-QTOF/MS.
  • Processes and analyzes acquired data using appropriate software tools.
  • Maintains accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and instrument performance.
  • Supports general laboratory operations, including solution preparation, equipment upkeep, and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
  • Attends all laboratory meetings.
