The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is looking to solve the problem of advancing the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through research, writing, and public outreach, with a focus on technology policy and digital and cyberspace policy.

Requirements

  • Proven background or experience in artificial intelligence, computer science, software engineering, or programming
  • Experience with data analysis/visualization, AI tools, and/or quantitative research preferred
  • Proficiency in basic workplace software, such as MS Office and Google Workspace required
  • Proficiency in more advanced software and/or coding languages preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor ongoing developments in technology policy and technology development, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, data handling, governance mechanisms, and national security
  • Research, draft, and/or proofread articles, blog posts, news summaries, opinion pieces, white papers, memoranda, talking points, presentations, social media posts, and long-form analyses on a variety of topics in technology policy as requested by the fellow
  • Assist with the proofreading and editing of content, including blog posts and policy briefs
  • Support the execution of programmatic deliverables as designated by the fellow and other programmatic staff
  • Coordinate events, including preparing invitations, making travel arrangements, scheduling, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
  • Assist in managing finances, including tracking monthly expenditures, creating and updating trackers, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement
  • Coordinate effectively and collaboratively with departments across the Council on behalf of the fellow

Other

  • BA or MA degree with high academic credentials, and/or strong experience in a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong track record of operating effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment with multiple tracks of work occurring simultaneously
