The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub San Francisco is looking for a Research Associate to join the Balla group in studying virus infection using zebrafish as a model system.
Requirements
- Familiarity with techniques used to characterize RNA virus replication (qRT-PCR, RNA in situ hybridization, TCID50, plaque assay, etc)
- Experience with widefield and/or confocal microscopy (nice to have)
- Hands-on experience working with viruses (nice to have)
- Working knowledge of python (nice to have)
- Experience with aquaculture (essential)
- Experience with molecular biology lab techniques, including nucleic acid isolation, PCR, cloning/construct design, and bacterial cell culture
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy genetically modified viruses in zebrafish and tissue culture models to profile the dynamics of viral infection
- Characterize RNA virus replication using techniques such as qRT-PCR, RNA in situ hybridization, TCID50, and plaque assay
- Work with zebrafish and/or tissue culture models to study virus infection
- Design and construct genetically modified viruses
- Conduct molecular biology experiments, including nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and bacterial cell culture

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in a life science
- 1 year of molecular biology lab experience
- 1 year of experience working with zebrafish and/or tissue culture
- Interest in biology, animal husbandry, animal behavior, or a related field
