The Quality and Patient Safety initiative (QPSi) at the College of Medicine is seeking a Research Data Scientist III to lead advanced data science efforts focused on enhancing healthcare quality, operations, and patient safety through artificial intelligence (AI) and statistical modeling.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and five years of experience; Master's Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and three years of experience; Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and one year of experience.
- Doctoral degree in a science or health profession and two years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in a science or health profession and five years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in scientific writing or editing roles with a robust portfolio of published work in healthcare or related fields, showcasing content creation abilities.
- Expertise in data science and statistical analysis, a passion for applying innovative, data-driven methods to real-world clinical challenges, and a commitment to supporting measurable improvements in patient outcomes and care delivery.
- Experience with Python or R.
- Proficiency in numeracy and data visualization for creating charts, graphs, and data visualizations.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork within cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop research projects stemming from activities within the QPSi AI/QI Program.
- Originate and prepare content for publication or performance, such as abstracts, scripts, essays, articles, reports, and presentations.
- Edit and proofread materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to editorial standards.
- Perform statistical analysis to generate tabular and graphical information necessary for scientific publications and grant submissions.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers in AI/QI Program and with clinical teams to execute subanalysis as requested by journal or grant reviewers.
- Contribute to enhanced scientific rigor of AI/QI Program's deliverables by sharing lessons learned from scientific conferences and peer reviewers, and by implementing the latest practices.
- Understand state-of-the-art AI methodologies deployed by AI/QI team to enable accurate content creation.
Other
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including clinicians, data scientists, and engineers—to extract clinically relevant insights, develop peer-reviewed research, and disseminate innovations that position QPSi as a national leader in healthcare quality improvement.
- Contribute to strategic dissemination plans, ensuring high-quality, consistent communication of complex healthcare and AI concepts across platforms.
- Reporting to the Associate Director of the AI/QI Program and working closely with the Academy and Outreach Program, this role is instrumental in advancing QPSi's mission and expanding its impact.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including leadership, faculty, and staff, to understand and effectively communicate complex healthcare and AI concepts throughout the content creation process.
