The company is seeking a Research Group Leader to drive innovation and lead a team of researchers focused on the extension, use, and integration of biological foundation models to solve biomedical and biological problems.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology or related area with at least 5 years of post-doctoral experience, OR an MSc in a relevant field with at least 10 years of relevant research experience
- Deep knowledge and expertise in the design and use of foundation models for biology
- Experience with the use of AI to address systems biology questions
- Experience in working and integrating multiple biological modalities
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices and collaborative development environments
- Experience in both academic and industry research settings
- Experience in securing research funding (e.g., grants, collaborations)
Responsibilities
- Lead partnerships with industry and academic teams focused on the use, integration and extension of the foundation models developed by GenBio
- Analyze and interpret complex data, drawing meaningful conclusions and identifying potential breakthroughs
- Collaborate effectively with our engineering and product teams and with other stakeholders across the organization
- Lead the writing and publication of high-quality papers demonstrating the success of GenBio’s AI approach
- Contribute to the intellectual property strategy of the company through invention disclosures and patent applications
- Ensure adherence to high scientific standards and best practices within the research group
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in relevant scientific fields and integrate new knowledge into research projects

- Lead and mentor a team of research scientists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
- Work with the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and other leaders to drive the research strategy and objectives for your group, aligning with the broader company goals
- Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings, scientific conferences, and in peer-reviewed publications
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role, including managing and mentoring research scientists or a similar technical team
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment
