Requirements
- PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or related STEM field
- Demonstrated ability to develop original research agendas
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other researchers and product development teams
- Interpersonal skills, cross-group, and cross-culture collaboration
- Knowledge of machine learning and statistics concepts, including generative models, transfer learning, domain adaptation, optimal transport, stochastic control, meta-learning, sign language modeling, statistics, approximate inference, distribution compression, weather and climate forecasting, causal inference, causal machine learning, ML for health, adversarial ML, learning and incentives, reinforcement learning, deep learning, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning
Responsibilities
- Advance the state-of-the-art in machine learning (ML) research on topics including generative models, transfer learning, domain adaptation, optimal transport, stochastic control, meta-learning, sign language modeling, statistics, approximate inference, distribution compression, weather and climate forecasting, causal inference, causal machine learning, ML for health, adversarial ML, learning and incentives, reinforcement learning, deep learning, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning
- Collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers
- Present findings
- Contribute to the vibrant life of the community
- Work alongside leading researchers, applied scientists, and engineers
- Develop original research agendas
- Collaborate effectively with other researchers and product development teams

- Accepted or currently enrolled in a PhD program
- Physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship
- Submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position as well as a cover letter and any relevant work or research samples
