The Gilad lab at the University of Chicago's Section of Genetic Medicine is seeking a Research Laboratory Manager to support its scientific research goals by managing day-to-day laboratory operations, optimizing protocols, and assisting with experimental projects focused on understanding the genetic architecture of gene regulation.
Requirements
- Knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
- Knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics.
- Familiarity with single-cell sequencing platforms.
- Familiarity with stem cell culture and differentiation techniques.
Responsibilities
- Performs the testing, cryopreservation, storage, thawing, culturing, and maintenance operations as they pertain to existing lymphoblastoid cell lines and induced pluripotent stem cells in the lab.
- Prepares RNA libraries for sequencing, including single-cell RNA preparations on the Drop-seq and 10X Genomics sequencing platforms.
- Maintains laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment service and repair.
- Develops procedures to ensure safety, security, quality, and accuracy of results.
- Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks.
- Works independently to assist with project design.
- Solves complex problems relating to the administration of projects, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology.
Other
- Supervises distribution, transfer, and shipment of cell lines from the Gilad lab to interested parties.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies.
- Support regulatory compliance efforts in accordance with governmental and departmental protocols. Implement, organize and maintain regulatory compliance records.
- Assists with the administration of laboratory budget. Manages appropriate use of funds from multiple sources, including, federally awarded funds, foundation funds and donation accounts.
- Responds to email communications and other requests promptly and courteously.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a constantly evolving schedule is required, as stem cell culturing requires the ability to work long hours and occasional weekends.
- Detail-oriented with possess strong communication, organization, and analytical skills.
- Ability to train others required.
