The Rebay Lab at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Professional Specialist to conduct cell biological, molecular genetic, and genomic experiments. The primary focus is to design and generate new genetic alleles for Drosophila genes using CRISPR/Cas approaches and utilize these tools to address fundamental questions in development and evolution.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge and skills in molecular biology and genetics, especially CRISPR/Cas9 mediated mutagenesis of genomic sequence.
- Advanced proficiency in Drosophila genetics and molecular biology.
- Ability to read papers critically, keep abreast of technical development in the field, and apply ideas from scientific literature to the design of new experiments.
- Ability to design, implement, troubleshoot and interpret experiments with highest level of independence.
Responsibilities
- Conduct cell biological, molecular genetic and genomic experiments with a high degree of independence in a basic research laboratory.
- Design and generation of new genetic alleles for several Drosophila genes using CRISPR/Cas approaches.
- Using these genetic tools to address fundamental questions in development and evolution.
- Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis.
- Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
- Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
- Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.
