Meta's Reality Labs Research is aiming to develop world-class consumer virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences by creating the technology that makes MR, VR, and AR pervasive and universal. The Material & System Innovation team is seeking a Research Scientist to focus on developing material, process, and system innovation for near-eye displays and beyond, exploring novel concepts through design, modeling, and iterative prototyping.
Requirements
- PhD degree or equivalent experience in Computational Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in computational methods for material discovery, process, and device development
- Proficient with molecular dynamics software (LAMMPS, HOOMD) for organic and inorganic materials
- Skilled in force field development (GAFF, Openff, OPLS)
- Experienced with high-throughput ab-initio calculations (Gaussian, Orca, QEspresso, VASP)
- Familiar with coarse-grain molecular dynamics
- Proficient in C/C++ and Python coding
Responsibilities
- Play a critical role in developing/identifying new materials and processes for AI devices
- Develop and utilize advanced computational models and various approaches of first-principle simulations to understand the optical, electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of organic, inorganic and hybrid material systems
- Support the team exploring novel concepts through design, modeling, and fast iterative prototyping
- Develop and implement research agendas, apply high standards to the research, and develop an capacity to identify highly impactful projects in a complete and unexplored domain

- Demonstrated experience in communication skills for board audiences
- First-author publications in high quality journals or conferences
- Demonstrated research and engineering experience via grants, patents, internships, or competitions
- Skilled in problem-solving with consideration of broad range of perspectives, experiences, approaches, and background
