Meta Reality Labs is developing the future of virtual and augmented reality, aiming to create AR glasses and VR headsets that will become as essential as smartphones and personal computers. This role focuses on advancing AR/VR display technology through computational diffractive optics.
Requirements
- 2+ years experience in at least one of the following areas of optical research: holography, diffractive optics, computational electromagnetics/photonics
- 2+ years hands on experience with one of the following optical simulation algorithms: RCWA, FDTD, FEM, adjoint method, or similar
- Familiarity with Python, Matlab or equivalent programming languages
Responsibilities
- Develop next generation AR/VR displays with an emphasis on advanced modeling and prototyping to prove new concepts and understand the perceptual impact of those concepts.
- Collaborate with larger Meta RLR team to explore novel solution space for AR/VR devices.
- Explore the application of at least one of the following: diffractive optics, polarization optics, geometrical optics.
- Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
- Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development.
Other
- Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computational Science or relevant technical field
- Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op
- Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
- Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications in top-tier journals or at leading conferences such as CLEO, SPIE, and APS
