The Office of Research Protections (ORP) at Penn State is seeking a Research Security Analyst to ensure the security and compliance of research activities, particularly in relation to federal funding and international collaborations.
Requirements
- Experience in research security, compliance, or related areas.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
- A Master's degree is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research reviews to ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations, as outlined in Presidential Memorandum on United States Government-Supported Research and Development National Security Policy (NSPM-33) and the CHIPS and Science Act, including performing detailed risk analyses in response to federal sponsor requests.
- Effectuate and monitor mitigation plans for federal sponsors.
- Review visiting scholar applications and assess potential security risks.
- Collaborate with the Export Control Analyst to perform joint reviews that overlap with export control regulations.
- Assist researchers in understanding and navigating their reporting requirements and mitigating personal and institutional risk.
- Review publications to identify co-authors and funding sources from foreign countries of concern (FCOC).
- Collaborate with the Education Team on research security training compliance.

- The location of this position is flexible and can operate fully remote within the United States, fully in-person at Penn State’s University Park Campus, or in a hybrid model of both in-person and remote.
