The laboratory research specialist is responsible for the performance and development of quantitative mass spectrometry (MS) analyses of bio-samples with stable small molecule isotope tracers from unique research projects at the Center of Translational Research on Aging and Longevity (CTRAL) or from (inter)national collaborating research projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research
  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry
  • 3 years of experience with operating and development of high throughput GCMS/MS and/or LCMS/MS quantitative applications with biological samples
  • Writing/publishing scientific manuscripts
  • Working in Biosafety Level 2 laboratory
  • Excellent math skills, Excellent chemical-analytical laboratory skills, Excellent data handling and computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Will complete quantitative small-molecule mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS) analyses using stable (non-radioactive) isotope methodology to study underlying metabolic pathways and to determine nutritional requirements
  • Responsible for operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining the MS equipment independently for existing applications
  • Will assist in the development, improvement, and validation of new stable isotope detection methods to measure small biomolecules/metabolites
  • Responsible for the quality control of the produced quantitative MS data
  • Data entry into a variety of statistical software to prepare for and conduct analysis and reports/manuscripts (when needed)
  • Update/writing Standard Operating Protocols
  • Responsible for detailed reports and should be comfortable to work in a multidisciplinary team
