The Menet Laboratory in the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Technician I to contribute to cutting-edge biological research and provide technical support by performing routine laboratory tasks and assisting with ongoing experiments.
Requirements
- Experience working in a wet-lab environment, this includes proficiency in pipetting, aliquoting, dilution, and solution preparation.
- Rodent handling and animal husbandry experience, including breeding.
- Knowledge of computer and office software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Responsibilities
- Manage the mouse colony for the lab which can include pairing, weaning, and genotyping animals of multiple transgenic lines.
- Performs other tasks consistent with the healthy maintenance of the animal colony.
- Assists and train undergraduate student workers in managing the lab mouse colony.
- Maintains inventory and orders parts and supplies as needed.
- Maintains laboratories according to the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) specifications.
- Maintains equipment for the assigned laboratory.
- Maintains detailed records of colony, breeding, and procedures performed.
Other
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of related experience in a research lab in the field of life science.
- Ability to lift, carry, load or unload up to 20 lbs. of materials.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
