Brooks Running is seeking a Master's graduate intern to assist in biomechanical data collection and processing for their Run Research Team. This data will be used to inform product design, materials, and development, ensuring the performance integrity of their products meets end consumer needs.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience in a biomechanics lab or a lab that involved data collection on human subjects using 3D motion capture.
- Hands-on experience with materials testing and familiarity with stress/strain testing protocols.
- Hands-on experience with writing code (MATLAB, Python, etc.) and creating kinematic and kinetic models for human motion capture (Visual 3D).
- Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Well-developed quantitative skills with an aptitude for report-building, data mining, and interpretation.
Responsibilities
- Collection and processing of human subject data using Motion Analysis 3D motion capture.
- Write code to analyze mechanical and biomechanical data in Matlab and Visual 3D.
- Perform mechanical testing on plague materials and shoes (Instron).
- Write scientific reports PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. summarizing human movement and mechanical property findings for Brooks product and competitors that are delivered to product teams for use in product improvement.
- Use your graduate level research skills to conduct human movement studies that lead to innovative testing procedures and optimization of product for all who run.
- Use your advanced data analytics skills to mine data in our Tableau historical dashboards containing over 9,000 trials of human motion capture over the last six years to recommend product improvements based on identified opportunities.
- Understand athletic product design features and components and how they influence human movement.
Other
- Master's degree with a background in biomechanics, kinesiology, and/or exercise science or an equivalent analytical field.
- Willing to commit to the intern position for six months onsite in Seattle, WA
- Willingness to learn and gain hands-on experience.
- Able to commit to up to 40 hours a week to be physically present at HQ.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating effective listening through concise, clear verbal and written communication.
