The Safety Department is implementing a Safety Management System (SMS) at WMATA. The Office of Safety Data Analytics is essential in the development and roll-out of SMS to guide important decisions, deliver real-time safety data, and manage our data systems.
Requirements
- The ability to understand, join, and analyze large datasets from platforms across WMATA to produce actionable information
- Innovative thinking to identify new and more efficient ways of working utilizing data tools such as Python and Power BI

Responsibilities
- Prepares analytics reports summarizing leading and lagging indicators of safety performance that support internal and external customers to inform the organization of incident trends and hazards across WMATA including Rail, Bus and Paratransit systems
- Filters and cleans raw data by reviewing primary and secondary sources to correct errors in data entry and provide inputs for trend analysis
- Assist Senior Analysts with trend analyses to identify leading drivers of accidents and injuries
- Identifies business process improvements during the collecting, storing, and manipulation stages of data analysis, utilizing tools such as Python, Cognos, and PowerBI.
- Translates these process improvements into standard operating procedures and/or partners with IT to document requirements for system enhancements, to improve efficiency and accuracy of analysis conducted and communicate improvements to IT
- Support and maintain compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) record-keeping and National Transit Database (NTD) reporting requirements.
